"Platform Map"

Ahh, I still use this map. Partially because I really don't want to spend another three months drawing a new one. But also because I like it! A couple things are inaccurate now and need to be changed (like Gadda, it's been... Deleted), but it's still on the site today, and I sill reference it.

2017 me has no comment on this monster, apparently, so you don't get any blasts from the past today.

"Saccharine Horrors"

"This could be considered the spiritual successor to "Unwitting Symbiosis", I suppose. That was made, what, two years ago?! Good lord, time flies.

So this is both a sketch that got out of hand and a celebratory drawing that I made because I finished a short story that's essentially about how Yens lost his arm. Shortly before dying. But it doesn't cover that last bit. But if you've wondered why there's a severed arm (and tons of candy imagery), that's why: arm-loss and Sehenness. Arm-loss DUE to Sehenness.

I seem to be at a point where I'm drawing a lot of Blik. I've always gone through phases where I can't get enough of a certain character, and it seems I'm going through one with him, now. So, if you see a lot of him in this 2017 era, that would be why. Anyway, despite how morbid this drawing is, I'm very happy with it. Since a lot of my art normally focuses on shading and being pleasant, I thought it would be fun to flip that entirely and have a drawing that's biggest draw is the line art, and is eye-searingly complicated and bright. and I succeeded, I think! I'm also proud of the fact that the entire drawing is made with different shades of a single color. It was a fun challenge! At first I wasn't quite sure how to color it, trying tons of different colors combinations and reds (since I knew I wanted some sort of red in there) but I eventually decided to go with just the neon reddish-pink, and it all worked out a bit better."

And this, along with "Unhealthy Affection", inspired a love for weird, limited color palettes that I still have to this day. It mostly manifests in animatics. But it blazes strong.

"Monochrome Twins"

"I love how much they love each other.

I guess that Blik does indeed have a good time in some pictures of him. This being one of them. When a friend of mine suggested putting these two in coordinated "twins" shirts, I just couldn't resist drawing it. I'm very pleased with it! I feel that I did a pretty good job on the proportions and the posing (even if Vera's right arm is a tad stubby), and also on making their smiles look genuinely happy (something that's deceptively hard to do, at least for me). Either Blik has a better sense of humor than we thought or Vera's laughing really hard at her own joke, which isn't too out of character for her, honestly. The black-white color contrast was also fun to play with. It must be neat to have a twin that has colors exactly contrasting to yours. The coordinated costume opportunists are endless."

"Anthony, the captain of the royal guard in the Yellow Zone, and one of Storge's most trusted soldiers. "

"Unhealthy Affection"

"It's supposed to be a two-way street.

Anthony is Storge's strongest and most-trusted knight. As you might expect, they're in good standing with one another, but Anthony has a bit of an interesting view of their relationship (and an extreme inferiority complex), putting his responsibility to keep Storge safe before his own health and well-being, regardless of what Storge actually wants."

This was the first real thing I put out there about Chromatica! It changed a lot over the course of its existence, and in all honesty I'm still not sure what to do with it. But hey, here it is! There'll be more on it later.

"Happy as Can Be"

"IT'S CUTE.

Sometimes, you just want to draw something that is so saccharine, it will give you type 2 diabetes. This was one of those times: I just wanted something sweet and innocent up here in contrast with some of the other horrible events that I chronicle in my art. And so here are Bludmar and Leilani!

I'm pretty proud of this one! The dresses were pretty hard to work with, as I've never been the best with cloth physics in art. However, with plenty of references and help from my friends, I think I got something that looks good! And cute. Very, very cute."

"Noble Volkie"

"I've been playing some Fire Emblem again! This time, I've been playing the newest game (well, I suppose it's not exactly the newest anymore, since it's been out for over a year): Fire Emblem Fates! It's quite fun! I thought that I'd draw my player character, Volkie, looking rather dragon-y as a result of her heritage. While the player character does turn into a dragon in the game, they seem to alternate between totally human and totally dragon, and you know what? That's boring. So I drew Volkie looking a tad dragon-esque for fun."

"Weaponized Insanity"

"It's just the blind leading the blind, really. Or the certifiable leading the certifiable.

Nobles is a horrible person. Really horrible. Murder-people-who-speak-ill-of-him horrible. And he needed an accomplice in his crimes, so naturally he went for Soylent, who was already thoroughly insane enough to do whatever he said without any reason. Nobles sent him to "take care of" whoever he didn't want around anymore, and the Sehen did so without question. When Soylent eventually got caught in the process of tearing someone apart, Nobles denied any involvement and let him take the fall, throwing him out like yesterday's trash.

So I've had art block for what feels like eighty years. It's been tough -- I've wanted to draw, but just lacked any inspiration. But I think I'm getting back on track with this horrifying drawing of these two freaks of nature! What a way to start 2017. I had no idea of what to do for the background of this picture, and that's usually what gets me, but I was able to come up with something I'm pretty pleased with!"
