"Airstream Dream"

There's more information on Youtube about the actual plot of this thing, but as it is, I'm just happy that it exists. This makes the second big animation I've ever produced! It was very exciting. Also, timing those wiggling silhouettes was murder on Windows Movie Maker. Hopefully for future projects, I can get my new sophisticated animation software working, yeah? Although... If I just end up using WMM in the next animation... You'll know what happened.

Anyway, have some characters from another project of mine: Chromatica! I don’t think I’ve posted anything relating to it so far. The gist of it is that the world is ruled over by six gods, who are all associated with different elements (and glow different colors, because I like the idea of having beings of ultimate power also be human glow-sticks). The gods have symbols on their bodies that give them their power, and they’re pretty much immortal – unless their symbol is removed from them, that is. Storge, shown above, used to have his symbol on his foot… And, uh, now he doesn’t anymore. His captain, Anthony, isn’t happy about that."

"Marred"

"I took a day-long break from comic-ing (I’m on page 37 – officially over halfway done! Two pages per day is a tough pace to keep up in the long run, though – it really wears you out.) to produce a warped Bludmar. Because warps are never not fun to draw, in a weird way.

This is a re-draw of an older piece that I did before Bludmar’s design and story were really cemented. The old one looked like this!

I’d say this version is an improvement, yeah? Much more pleasing to look at… If warps ever can be pleasing to the eye.

Anyway, both this old version of warped Bludmar and her current version have one story beat in common – she was driven insane by her hemokinesis, which resulted in her essentially becoming a telekinetic vampire, ripping blood out of people’s bodies in order to add to her own mass of it. She was eventually put down by her own children in order to keep her from hurting anybody else.

"Eye Candy"

"A quicker (AKA: background-less) picture that I made to take a break from comic-ing. This is Blik’s version of dramatically eating ice cream straight out of the carton while bawling… Except, instead of ice cream, it’s pickled eyes. Well… Everyone has their comfort foods, I s’pose.

(I thought of this late at night while half-asleep, and it was so stupidly, morbidly hilarious to me that I had to draw it. I hope you folks get the same value out of it that I did.)"

I debated fairly heavily whether to repost this one here. On one hand, it's not particularly good and is more self-indulgent and weird than anything. But on the other, I like it and still think it's funny.

I'm not sure what this says about me.

"Saccharine Horrors"

"This could be considered the spiritual successor to "Unwitting Symbiosis", I suppose. That was made, what, two years ago?! Good lord, time flies.

So this is both a sketch that got out of hand and a celebratory drawing that I made because I finished a short story that's essentially about how Yens lost his arm. Shortly before dying. But it doesn't cover that last bit. But if you've wondered why there's a severed arm (and tons of candy imagery), that's why: arm-loss and Sehenness. Arm-loss DUE to Sehenness.

I seem to be at a point where I'm drawing a lot of Blik. I've always gone through phases where I can't get enough of a certain character, and it seems I'm going through one with him, now. So, if you see a lot of him in this 2017 era, that would be why. Anyway, despite how morbid this drawing is, I'm very happy with it. Since a lot of my art normally focuses on shading and being pleasant, I thought it would be fun to flip that entirely and have a drawing that's biggest draw is the line art, and is eye-searingly complicated and bright. and I succeeded, I think! I'm also proud of the fact that the entire drawing is made with different shades of a single color. It was a fun challenge! At first I wasn't quite sure how to color it, trying tons of different colors combinations and reds (since I knew I wanted some sort of red in there) but I eventually decided to go with just the neon reddish-pink, and it all worked out a bit better."

And this, along with "Unhealthy Affection", inspired a love for weird, limited color palettes that I still have to this day. It mostly manifests in animatics. But it blazes strong.

"Weaponized Insanity"

"It's just the blind leading the blind, really. Or the certifiable leading the certifiable.

Nobles is a horrible person. Really horrible. Murder-people-who-speak-ill-of-him horrible. And he needed an accomplice in his crimes, so naturally he went for Soylent, who was already thoroughly insane enough to do whatever he said without any reason. Nobles sent him to "take care of" whoever he didn't want around anymore, and the Sehen did so without question. When Soylent eventually got caught in the process of tearing someone apart, Nobles denied any involvement and let him take the fall, throwing him out like yesterday's trash.

So I've had art block for what feels like eighty years. It's been tough -- I've wanted to draw, but just lacked any inspiration. But I think I'm getting back on track with this horrifying drawing of these two freaks of nature! What a way to start 2017. I had no idea of what to do for the background of this picture, and that's usually what gets me, but I was able to come up with something I'm pretty pleased with!"
